The Great North Air Ambulance currently operates three helicopters in the North East and Cumbria. It receives no Government or Lottery funding and relies entirely on the charitable donations of the public to keep its lifesaving service in operation. It costs £1.2m per year in order to keep ONE aircraft running, so the charity needs all the help it can get to ensure that the best pre-hospital care reaches the people who need it most. The crews can be called out to any variety of incidents from car or motorbike crashes to sports accidents, fallen walkers or transporting seriously ill patients to specialist hospitals. Any one of us could need it at any time, for any reason. As their slogan says 'We need your help today, will you need ours tomorrow?'. I saw the Pride of Cumbria at Otterburn Festival in 2009 and took some photos of it. These sat in my photo album for the best part of eight months until I decided that I would have a go at painting it which I have to say is somewhat different to my usual subjects!! I have since painted more images which have been used by GNAAS, and are available as Christmas cards and postcards. ALL of the profits from the sale of these cards go to The Great North Air Ambulance Service. Please visit www.greatnorthairambulance.co.uk for more details.
